Rezumat:   The Hungarian Reformed Church and its theological reflexions of the last few decades are in a state of crisis, suffering from the lack of the confessing and prophetic function of its theological thinking. While the reformed church is challenged by unprecedented global economical, social and political changes, it is not surprising that a strong need arose to give a valid and relevant response to these changes, both in theological reflexions and declarations from the worldwide Reformed Church bodies and organizations. Does the church require in this upheaval of changes a clear prophetic vision and thinking, to find its mission, and to position itself in relation to the economical, political and social status quo of the present? How should the Reformed Church relate to its own confessions and traditions? Do we need to formulate new creedal documents, or should we turn to study in earnest our historical traditions and confessions (processus confessionis) in order to find new and relevant ways to confess our faith in the current historical and social context? In what way and context are biblical and theological concepts like prophecy, confession, witnessing and watchmen role of the church related to each other? This study endeavours to answer these questions from a social ethical perspective, defining these concepts with the help of systematic theology and analysing the social and political changes that are currently challenging and forcing the reformed church worldwide to new theological reflexions. And lastly the study concludes with the help of the Theological Declarations accepted by the World Council of Reformed Churches in 1997 at Debrecen and 2004 in Accra, that the prophetical and confessional natures of the church complement each other. The prophetical character of the church can make the service and witness of the church concrete, relevant and factual. On the other hand the full appreciation of the confessional documents weighs the current witness of the church on the scale of revelation, placing it in the historical quest of the church to seek the will of God for his church and its people.
