Rezumat:  Mihai Viteazul and the Serbian Captain Baba Novac (1596-1601). The paper deals with the close collaboration between two leading personalities of South-East European history at the threshold of the 16th-17th centuries, within the framework of the late crusade: Mihai Viteazul (1593-1601) and Baba Novac. The former was one of the most important Romanian rulers, who joined the Christian League and successfully resisted the Turks and whose name is connected to the first political unification of the three Romanian countries (1600). Baba Novac was one of his faithful and constant collaborators.Between 1596-1601, the latter and his detachments of "haiduci" - a military category of mercenaries - distinguished themselves in many raids against the Turks, south of the Danube, as well as by the support granted to the Romanian prince in his attempt to safeguard the political unification of the three countries: Wallachia, Transylvania and Moldavia. Baba Novac was slain in Cluj, in February 1600, by the Transylvanian Hungarian aristocracy hostile to Mihai Viteazul and his friends. Both Mihai Viteazul and Baba Novac entered the legend and were immortalized in Romanian and Balkan epic songs for their valor and bravery.
