  Rezumat:  Church, State, Nation in 18th century Transylvania. In Transylvania, the 18th century represents a time of political, economic, cultural, and social unrest, that had direct consequences on the relations between Church, State and Nation. Despite all these, the Romanian people was not aware of the struggle between State and church, that troubled the life of the Roman-catholic peoples; the Church and the Nation lived in full solidarity from the very beginning; as the Church witnessed all great deeds of the Romanian people. This century is decisive for crystallizing the national consciousness and forms a time of affirmation of the national unity, even if the ecclesiastic unit cannot be accomplished. The Romanians, as well as the Uniates promoted the idea of a national church that corresponded to the political aspirations of the Romanians, to put the ecclesiastical institutions into the service of the national cause. The Union of 1700, the cultural and social changes that the Romanians experienced on a historical plan determined and influenced the relation between the three realities: Church, State and Nation.
