THE STUDY OF MOLECULAR MOVEMENTS IN BINARY LIQUIDS MIXTURES BY PROTON N.M.R RELAXATION. Autori: GHEORGHE CRISTEA, VIRGIL IONCU. |

Rezumat: In this paper the proton N.M.R. relaxation phenomenon has been used for studding the rotational and translational molecular movement in the following binary liquids mixture: isopropyl alcohol-CCl4, n-amyl alcohol-CCl4 and benzene-CCl4. All the three liquids, diluted in diamagnetic CCl4, contain protons and, therefore, excited by an electromagnetic radiofrequency pulse, give an N.M.R. signal which decays as a result of spin-lattice and spin-spin proton relaxation. The experiment consists in determination of T1 (the spin -lattice relaxation tine) and T2 (the spin-spin relaxation time) which are tight linked with rotational and translational molecular movements. We argued that in these mixtures only dipole-dipole, intra- and intermolecular, relaxation mechanism is effective. Separating, experimentally, the two dipole-dipole relaxation mechanisms we were able to determine rotational correlation time (R) and translational correlation time (D) of the molecular motion. Knowing these two parameters we determined the rotational diffusion coefficient (DR) and the translational diffusion coefficient (D) of alcohol and benzene molecules, respectively. | |||||||
