	Rezumat: In the history of its development any language borrows, under certain circumstances lexical material from other languages. Some languages borrow more than others, and borrow more from some sources than others. English has borrowed heavily from Latin and French. Contacts in multilingual situations, the domination of some languages by others (for political, religious, cultural reason, etc.), prestige associated with using words from other languages are some of the major reasons for borrowing. The article offers a brief survey of Latin loanwords in the English lexicon.
