  Rezumat:  In our times with the opening of the world, intercultural communication has become a topical issue. But despite mastering a common language, communication often fails to achieve its purposes. The paper attempts to demonstrate that cultural gaps and lack of interest in the other’s culture are major causes of miscommunication. Three contemporary British novels which can be grouped under the title East Meets West, provide illustrations of such instances of failure in communication.
