Rezumat:
Formalist Elements of the Art Critical Discourse in „Arta (plastică) Magazine”. The present study describes one of the main instruments deployed by Romanian art critics during the Ceauşescu regime, namely the formalist discourse, as it is present in the Arta (plastică) magazine, edited by the Artists’ Union. Such discourse was mostly used during the sixties and seventies, after the demise of Socialist Realism as compulsory aesthetic paradigm. Several major art critics have used it in order to assess various forms of artistic endeavours, based on the belief that the critic is able and meant to decipher the profound structure of the art work and to interpret it for the wider audience. Also, this type of discourse was percceived as a way of avoiding a politicized, propagandistic approach of art, and a manner in which a relative autonomy of the field of culture could be maintained. Keyword: art criticism, Romania, Arta (plastică) Magazine, formalist discourse; critică de artă, România, revista Arta (plastică), discurs formalist.
