Rezumat: Recently, special attention has been paid to the problem of the biofilm mineralization on the rock surfaces (Adamo et al., 2000; De La Torre et al., 1993), due to the importance of understanding the rock transformation in ecosystems developed in various urban environments and in the presence of microbiological activity. The crystallization of minerals, which is possible with the help of microorganisms, can involve a wide range of processes: the biofilm growth, the mechanical activity of the biofilm on the stone surface, the producing of acids and other aggressive metabolites by the biofilms and the chemical reactions of the acids with the stone surface. These processes are largely connected with the atmospheric conditions and with the microorganisms living on the rock surface. Key words: calcium oxalates, patina, lichens, micromycetes. |
