Rezumat: Roztocze stands out as a range of NW-SE oriented hills in central-eastern Poland and central-western Ukraine (Fig. 1). The length of the region is 180 km, while its width changes between several to over twenty kilometres. Absolute altitudes increase from 280 m above sea level in the western part to approximately 390 m above sea level in the central part to over 400m above sea level in the Ukrainian part. The region is situated in the area of the Transeuropean Suture Zone (TESZ), separating the Precambrian Eastern European Craton from Palaeozoic structures of Western Europe. The formation of this area occurred principally during the Variscan orogeny. The Mesozoic and Cenozoic tectonic activity essentially influenced the geological diversity of the area, which is situated in a continental environment. Key words: Roztocze Biosphere Reserve, geodiversity, geoconservation |
