Rezumat: The “Academic Picnic of the Polish Radio and Kopernik Center of Knowlegde” is a recurrent event organized by the Polish Broadcasting Cooperation that takes place annually in Warsaw, Poland. This year it was organized for the thirteenth time. Representatives of the Institute of Geochemistry, Mineralogy and Petrology from the Faculty of Geology (Warsaw University, Poland) attended the picnic and organized a mini-exhibition of minerals and rocks. People had the possibility to check if a rough crystalline salt brought from a mine has the same flavor as the one bought in a shop, or if the gypsum crystal has the similar hardness as the plaster cast used for fixing broken bones. Many people admired fossil corals and shells that were still stuck in the host rocks. People could also compare rough jasper with polished pieces of the same rock, as it is used for jewelry. Artificial minerals, grown in the lab by students of the Institute, were highly appreciated and the leaflets with recipes to obtain such products were quickly vanishing from the stands. Key words: education, geology, media, Poland |
