Rezumat: The Baia Mare Museum of Mineralogy (BMMM) (Fig. 1) is situated in Mararmureş County (north Romania) and has the largest regional mineral collection in Europe. The high number of samples, their special features such as size, spectacular crystalographic habitus and particular associations brought the recognition of this collection’s uniqueness. Short history. The begining of the museum collection is related to the 60’s, with the identification and classification, by the curator V. Gorduza, of more than 1300 mineral samples stored in the county museum. In 1976 a Natural Sciences i.e. Mineralogy section of the museum was established and since than, based mostly on acquisitions, this representative collection for the Baia Mare mining district has been continuously enriched. Key words: regional museum, regional collection, exhibition, mine flowers. |
