  Rezumat:  Geographical-Historical Considerations on the Colonization of the Saxons in Transylvania. The German population in Transylvania, the so-called Saxons, represents one of the most important landmarks in the region`s history, architecture and social-economical development. Brought from Western Europe almost one thousand years ago, by the Hungarian monarchy, to protect the young state against the enemies attacking from the east, but also to economically develop the newly acquired territories, the Saxons accomplished this mission given to them successfully. The most eloquent example of the Saxons` struggle for freedom is represented by their fortress-churches, scattered all over the territories inhabited by them; and no one can doubt their merits in the region`s economy. Studying their origins, their motifs, their habitation area, and their way through the history can bring light in today`s social-economical picture of Transylvania.
