Public Health in Maramureş County - Current Status, Problems and Strategies. A population’s health is very often a good indicator of that given nation’s stage of development and culture. Ever since its accession to the European Union, Romania has been trying to fill the development gap that separates it from the developed European countries. The analysis of the public health component needs to be based on a series of objective indicators that correspond to the existing realities. Among these indicators we have the main health indicators like the existence of relevant institutions and their number, the medical personnel and their skills (qualifications), the main/specific diseases and their consequences, the main demographic indicators ecc. The analysis of this specific region is indicative of the general national situation in terms of state of health of the population and in terms of main flaws of the system (compared to most of the existing systems in the European Union). The present study offers a detailed description of the public health component in the county of Maramureş and makes a series of policy proposals aimed at improving this component, policies that need rapid implementation.
