  Rezumat:  Analysis of the Geographic Premises for Planning in the Netherlands. This paper analyses the geographic context for planning in the Netherlands, one of the most highly planned countries in the world. The paper draws on the author`s interest and research experience in the Netherlands and synthesizes the most relevant geographic aspects related to planning. In the post-war Netherlands, the impetus for adopting integrated national planning came from a number of interrelated factors that operated in the Dutch environment. This paper sets the general geographic context for postwar planning in the Netherlands, by examining the complex set of geographic forces that drive the national planning processes. It examines the spatial-geographical challenges and limitations imposed by the Netherlands` location and size, and reviews the centuries old land reclamation projects. It also analyses the post-war population and urbanization patterns, as well as the housing pressures.
