  Rezumat:   The aim of this contribution is to compare the swimming performance of candidates of higher education in Slovakia and France. The first part of the contribution deals with swimming performance in Slovakia. Three Slovak universities and their faculties (Faculty of Humanities at Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport at Comenius University in Bratislava and Pedagogical faculty at Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra) have been compared. The second part of the article describes the evaluation at French universities. The data for Slovak universities were acquired by primary research that was based on the methods of observation and statistics. The last research at Slovak faculties was done in the school year 2007/2008. The total number of participants in this research was 1002 (790 men and 212 women). In the paper we use also information of professors of swimming from the last 15 years. The data for French universities were collected from the materials from University Lyon 1 – Faculty of physical education and sport and discussion with swimming teachers at this university. The system of evaluation in France is similar for all French faculties of physical education and sport and there are no major differences in the evaluation. The last part of this paper consists of the synthesis of the acquired information and suggests how the swimming evaluation at Slovak faculties of physical education should be done.
