Rezumat: We report on the synthesis of organoclays and inorganic-organic clays obtained by inserting in natural clay hexadecylpyridinium (HDPB) bromide and HDPB plus hydroxy-aluminium, respectively. The effect of synthesis conditions on the physical, chemical, and structural properties of the products was examined by total organic carbon determination, specific surface and porosity measurement, and performing SEM and FT-IR of the surface. Glassy carbon electrodes were modified by a film of the organoclays, and utilized as the working electrode in ion-exchange voltammetry. Multistep cyclic voltammetry revealed a time dependence accumulation of anions in the clay layer, by adsorption from the supporting electrolyte. Thereby, the modified clays have been shown to be useful in analytical applications that involve high affinity ion capturing. Recorded adsorption isotherms show that these modified clays are promising materials for environmental application as adsorbents of organic pollutants such as 2,4- and 2,6-dinitrophenols. Keywords: modified clays, organoclays, organic-inorganic clays, ions exchange voltammetry, and dinitrophenols. |
