Abstract:   In the second half of the nineteenth century, the need for a well-trained and dynamic sacerdotal body was felt throughout the metro¬politan province of Alba-Iulia and Făgăraş. Having also been compelled in this sense by the Roman pontifical authorities, the hierarchs of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church turned their attention towards building a clerical body of profound ecclesiastical culture and education. Gradually, the priests with long-term studies, replaced those with short-term education. The portrait of the clerics from the higher administrative structures of the Diocese of Lugoj, which we have outlined in this study, reflects this trend, which characterised the entire Romanian Greek-Catholic Church.
