Abstract:  The study presents the missionary work of St. Paul in Athens, with its special characteristics for a cultivated auditorium. In the preaching of the Bible, the Apostle uses those elements of the Greek culture and religion that can be assimilated and can get a Christian meaning. Therefore, his attitude is not one of rejecting everything that is non-Christian, but one of accepting everything that can be considered worth of becoming Christian. Both the Greek religion, through the altar dedicated to the “unknown God”, and the Greek culture will offer St. Paul a solid contact with the non-Christian Greek reality. The missionary method will be that of the “Yes, but…”

Keywords: history of religions, culture, inter-religious dialog, mission.
