Abstract:  The Canon of the Scriptures: genesis and status of the Christian Bible. We have to admit today that Christianity always presented itself under the shape of a multitude of communities and ways of living the word of Christ. This plurality appears as an essential characteristic, from the very beginning of the Church. Even the canonical Scriptures, as we know them today, are speaking about diverse sources and backgrounds that produced them. The apocryphal literature was, for a long period of time, regarded with disdain, and an important part of it was lost, because of its heretical content. This article is a pleading in the sense of a re-evaluation of our attitude towards these documents. Not only they represent a part of the earliest history of Christianity, but they also help us to understand the process of writing of the today New Testament.

Keywords: Scripture, canon, plurality, apocryphal literature, re-evaluation.
