Abstract:  Liturgy and deaconry. The Orthodox Christian faith finds its most profound manifestation in the celebration of the Divine Liturgy. The Divine Liturgy is at the heart of the Church’s life and a form of its teachings, and therefore closely connected to deaconry. Recent theologians, such as A. Schmemann in the Orthodox theology, or Romano Guardini and Odo Casel in the Catholic one, have underlined the Liturgy’s import not only for the Christian life, but also for theology. Since the fundamental characteristic of the Liturgy is the fact that it is the prayer of the community of the Church, the liturgical theology expresses the celebrated faith of the Church and is intimately related to dogmatic theology. Therefore, both disciplines depend on the Divine Liturgy, but nevertheless, they both play an orientation role: they see to it that the Liturgy of the Church is experienced as a living realty of the faith, which is to be extended in the love and care for one’s neighbour. From the very beginning of the Church, the celebration of the faith, living and preaching it, in other words, Leitourgia, Diakonia and Martyria, have always been one.
