ABSTRACT:
The Canadian theologian Jean-Marie Roger Tillard dedicated much of his lifetime research to explore the Church’s being and its mission. His central focus is the celebration of the Eucharist and its essential role of communion between the Church and the Holy Trinity. His work goes to show an interdependence between what the Church celebrates (lex orandi) and what the Church believes about itself (lex credendi). This interaction between the “rule of prayer” and the “rule of faith” is further explored in this article from two different perspectives: Tillard’s theological method and one of interpreting the Church through the celebration of the Eucharist.

Keywords: Tillard, Church, faith, Eucharist, liturgy, communion, paschal mystery, ecumenism.
