Abstract:  While public opinion i.e. the attitude of healthy or only slightly ill persons tends to be increasingly in favor of euthanasia, the position of those suffering of severe diseases is radically dissimilar. Only an insignificant minority will express a certain and lasting wish to be helped to die. The reason of this different stance lies in the fact that humans commonly manifest lasting hope in respect to the meaning of life. The present study deals with the issues of distinction, personal criteria, psychological and juridical aspect raised by euthanasia.
