Abstract:  The Bible teaches thesimple truth that God himself founded the institution of matrimony and He meant it to be the basiccell of human society. We live in an age of confusion, when the boundary between good and evil isno longer obvious and even the pillars on which our society is founded are shaken. Family isconsidered a super-annuated institution and statistics show that it faces a serious crisis. All these ill omen show us that we have to reconsider the simple words of the Bible on thistopic and make clear to ourselves that in God’s plan matrimony is monogamous and indissoluble.Matrimony must be the earthly sign for God’s love towards mankind. In the Old Testament the lawsdefending the institution of family were extremely strict. The Jewish people proved a very deepsense of solidarity towards families, and especially relatives who were facing difficulties. In the NewTestament we find out about the appearance of a new kind of relationship even deeper than thefamily bounds. Jesus widens the borders of God’s kingdom so that every man believing in Him maybe a member of God’s family. That does not mean that he destroyed this strong bound but heimproved it. The basis of all relationships is Love (1 Cor 13).
