Abstract:   The purpose of our article is to analyze the moral character of the right to reparations as the main basis for compensations which should be granted to those affected by historical injustices. Therefore, we aim at analyzing the main grounds of the historical right to reparation and, at the same time, we will inquire into the arguments that can oppose several scholars’ objections which try to undermine the necessity of reparations defended by the idea of a right to reparations. The right to reparation can be grounded by overcoming four objections based on the following: the lack of moral entitlement to compensation of those born as a result of historical injustices, the impossibility of identifying the victims and perpetrators of the injustices, the thesis concerning the suppression of historical injustices due to the passage of time and changing circumstances and finally the difficulty of the counterfactual evaluation of reparations. We will use this analysis in order to demonstrate that there are various other types of reasons, beside the moral ones, able to ground the right to reparations.
