Abstract: Study on the Music in the Works of Haruki Murakami” - from “Kaze no uta wo kike (Hear the Wind Sing)” to “Dansu dansu dansu (Dance Dance Dance)”-. Having studied the music appearing in Haruki Murakami’s early works, such as “Hear the Wind Sing”, “Pinball, 1973”, “A Wild Sheep Chase”, and “Dance Dance Dance”, the conclusion was reached that Haruki Murakami understood the liberal mood of the American Pop & Rock of the 1960’s as playing the role of raising the motivation of the Japanese to live in society. However, it was not because America had been victorious in World War II that Japan had become an subordinate to America, and been greatly influenced by American culture. The frank and open mood that Haruki Murakami had eagerly waited for coincided with the mood that Pop & Rock music created. Keywords: frank and open mind, American influence, pop (popular music) |
