Article:   CHARACTER RECOGNITION USING MORPHOLOGICAL TRANSFORMATIONS.

Authors:  V. PREJMEREAN, S. MOTOGNA.

Abstract:  Starting from a digital image representing a character (or, more general, an object), we will obtain formal descriptions of the object structures, formed from primitives and the relations between them, using morphological transformations (thinning, prunning, determining the corners, determining the primitives). From such a description we will construct a description grammar for the object under study, grammars that are used in the syntac- tical recognition of similar objects. The object being recognized has a corre- sponding description through morphological transformations that allows us to study if the description belongs to the language generated by the designed grammar.
