  Abstract:  Cătălina Mihalache is a researcher at the “A. D. Xenopol” History Institute of the Romanian Academy and an associate lecturer at the History Faculty of “Al. I. Cuza” University of Jassy, her research domain being cultural history, with a focus on the history of education, history’s didactics and identity representations. She is the author of Şcoala şi artizanatul. Interpretări culte ale artei populare (School and handicraft. Cultured interpretations of folk art), 2007 and has co-edited, alongside Dumitru Ivănescu, the volume Patrimoniu naţional şi modernizare în societatea românească: instituţii, actori, strategii (National patrimony and modernisation in the Romanian society: institutions, actors, strategies), 2009.
