Abstract:  A rich microfloral assemblage consisting of over 125 taxa, and, up-to-date a macrofloral assemblage consisting of 25 taxa, has been described from Lower Pontian deposits from Batoţi (Mehedinţi district). The macroflora – the single one of this age in Romania – is allochthonous, partly hypautochthonous, and it has a special significance in understanding the evolution of the vegetation and climate of the Late Miocene.
