  Abstract:  The geologist and professor Valeriu Lucca represents one of the most prominent personality of the Romanian geology. His scientific expertise was in the fields of Ore Deposits and Metallogeny, and he was also a distinguished professor of Ore Deposits and Geological Prospecting and Explorations. He graduated the High school in Turda, followed by academic studies at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Cluj (1925) and later, by post-academic studies in Strasbourg (France) and London (Great Britain). Valeriu Lucca was working as a geologist at “Mica” Society in Brad (1933 – 1954); he soon became one of the most prominent coordinator geologists, especially regarding the gold mining activity in the Apuseni Mountains. He was one of the founders and professors of the “Brad Institute of Ores” college, that was opened between 1948 and 1952. Later, Valeriu Lucca was a professor at the Institute of Oil, Gas and Geology in Bucharest. From 1955 until 1967 he became a professor at the University of Cluj, where he was teaching the courses of Ore Deposits and Methods of Prospecting and Exploration of Ore Deposits. His teaching and research activity corresponded to the beginnings of “the school of metallogeny” at the University of Cluj, which was later continued and developed.
