  Abstract:  The Slat Industry in the Central Group of the Eastern Carpathians. The slat industry is one of the most ancient and wide spread branch of the wood industry, in general, and it keep alone more than 55% from the whole wood production value. In the present in the Central Group of the Eastern Carpathians the number of the big and medium sized slat industry centres are more than 40. The majority of them are situated near by the spruce-fir forests. These centres are completed with a high number of small units, with more than 1000 frame-saws, which disadvantage the forests in the surroundings.
