Abstract:  Geomorphological Constraints on Mountain Areas. Case Study: south-western Compartment of the Igniş Mountains. Mountain areas often are object of human interventions. Since early Middle Ages, the mineral resources was the main “attraction” of the Oaş-Gutâi area. A high density of the mining activities, roads and built-up areas is one of the main characteristics of the Igniş Mountains. On the other hand, geomorphological features represent the main constraints in development projects implementation. It is about morphometrical, dynamic and morphological characteristics of the landforms. These aspects were the main elements which we considered in assessment of the geomorphological constraints. In addition, we considered the geological and land use characteristics of the area. Analytical approach of the landforms and identification of human activities in the area was main phases of the study. Aditionally, we have tried to establish scores for each of the parameters tacked into account. As a result, using GIS techniques, we performed two maps: homogenous geomorphological areas map and geomorphological constraints map.
