Abstract:  Geographical-Historical Aspects about the Fortress-Churches in Transylvania. The fortress-churches in Transylvania are one of the most famous in Europe, representing better than everything else the Saxon village in Transylvania and the Saxons` desire for independence. The constant danger for more than 300 years led to the construction of highly performant but also very beautiful fortified churches of astonishing variety. From more than 300 initial fortress-churches, the remaining 140 are endangered. After the Saxons had left, these churches were left behind and since then no one seems to be interested in maintaining them.
