  Abstract:  Schimbările politice care au avut loc în Europa Centrală şi de Est la începutul ultimului deceniu al secolului XX au deschis calea pentru o presă liberă şi independentă în această parte a lumii. Aceste transformări au avut o importanţă deosebită şi pentru presa din România, care, deşi lent, se reaşază într-un proces ireversibil pe bazele adevăratului profesionism. Jurnaliştii au început să conştientizeze, din ce în ce mai mult, faptul că au nevoie de noi cunoştinţe, de o profesionalizare, pentru a răspunde exigenţelor tot mai mari ale cititorilor şi pentru a se impune pe o piaţă din ce în ce mai competitivă.
