  Abstract:  Toate culturile cunosc importante influenţe religioase în trecutul lor istoric. Manifestările şi consecinţele acestor influenţe sunt încă prezente chiar dacă factorul religios şi-a pierdut impactul. Mişcarea Olimpică a fost creată ca o religie artificială, prevăzută cu toate accesoriile de cult şi ceremonial. În privinţa conţinutului, în măsura în care acest cult a ajuns să se demodeze – expresia “citius, altius, fortius”, la origine un îndemn mental la viaţa monastică, a devenit un motto pentru mania recordurilor şi un scop în sine pentru sportul competiţional.
