The bicycle was the most successful sport in Cluj in the last 15 years of the 19th century. The first cyclist society attracted the city’s most prominent middle-class personalities. The society managed to build a modern track, which offered possibilities for high standard competitions attracting the best cyclists from the country. Cluj was the center of the sport, but this spectacular development was broken by the introduction of the bicycle tax at the turn of the 19’s century.
