Abstract:  The interaction of the liposomes with detergents helps to understand the solubilization of biological membranes for protein separation and reconstitution. After evaporation of an organic solvent from a solution of egg yolk lecithin, the lipid was hydrated and sonicated resulting a SUV suspension. The suspension was titrated with detergent solutions (Triton X-100, sodium deoxycholate) and the optical transmissions and diffusions were recorded. At the same time these optical values were measured for samples at equilibrium. The differences between these values were interpreted in terms of thermodynamics.
