Abstract:  The International Conference on the title: “Stem Cell Research in the service of human life?: Ethical and Theological Reflection” was a great place of mutual learning and mutual service to deepen understanding of ethical issues associated with stem cell research and helped to respond theologically with clarity so as to encourage the faith community to make better decisions on the bioethical issues in their respective contexts. While the meaning of human dignity, human personhood, hominization and ensoulment was a matter of some debate, life itself was consistently viewed as a gift from God across the religious traditions represented at the meeting. One of the key points of the consultation was the underlined theology of affirmation of life which grows and develops in the context of the worshipping life of a community. It is through liturgy that we find the space to be people of God, made in God’s image, and therefore grounded in deep respect for all persons.
