Abstract:  VIEW PDF: HEADSPACE SOLID PHASE MICROEXTRACTION COUPLED WITH GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY - ELECTRON CAPTURE DETECTOR FOR DETERMINATION OF CHLORPYRIFOS IN SEDIMENTS

A rapid, sensitive and accurate method for quantification of chlorpyrifos pesticide in sediment by Headspace solid phase microextraction (HS-SPME) coupled with gas chromatography - electron capture detection (GC-ECD) was developed, validated and applied to sediment sample collected from Somes River, Romania. The SPME fiber used was coated with polyacrylate (PA, 85µm) and the extraction conditions optimized. The average recovery was 81% and the limit of detection 0.2 µg/kg. The concentration of chlorpiryfos in sediment sample collected from Somes River was 6.5 µg/kg. The method is fast, cheap and environment-friendly because it employs a simple sample preparation procedure with minimal organic solvent consumption.

Key words: chlorpyrifos, HS-SPME/GC-ECD, sediment
