Abstract:   Water baptism is the most common act of worship, being carried out in any religious denomination. This article intends to describe the baptism’s evolution over time. To accomplish this goal I analyzed the Holy Fathers’s perspective of the baptism and I showed that the baptism in the early centuries was different than today’s baptism. The article also approached the theological point of view regarding baptism of the Catholic, the Orthodox and the evangelical Church. The central purpose is to highlight the different views of the baptism over time and how it was practiced by different denominations.

Keywords: Water baptism, Fathers’s perspective of the baptism, the Orthodox baptism, the Catholic baptism, the Evangelical baptism.
