Abstract:  The on-line dictionary Theodicy-Early-Modern-Theodicy affirms that “in his essay On the Failure of All Philosophical Efforts in Theodicy (1791), Kant likened theodiciststo Job’s comforters. By contrast, Job, whose faith in God was firmly rooted in the moral law rather than in the claim to be able to understand God’s ways, was able to stand fast in his piety despite his counter purposive (Zweckwidriege) experiences. In the place of the hypocrisy of doctrinal theodicy Kant recommended Job’s authentic theodicy: ‘honesty in openly admitting one’s doubts; repugnance to pretending conviction where one feels none’”. Our essay presents the quoted text of the german philosophers in a critical way and and tray to test if it really could be a point of departuresfor an authentic-practical theodicy.

Keywords: Immanuel Kant, theodicy, suffering, counter purpose, justice, book of Job.
