Abstract:  17–18th Century Tankards in the Dioceses Sepsi and Orbai. In Transylvania the art of tinfounders had an important and valorous role. As expression of a flowering, artistical trade we can find numerous tinworks in ecclesiastical inventories. This work gives us a general view of the tin from the Sepsi and Orbai dioceses: forms, technique of tin founding and ornation, marks, stylistical evolution. At the beginning, tin was seen as luxury object and was later accepted for general use. The cans from the Sepsi and Orbai dioceses were classified in more categories: tronconic, rost al tronconic, piriform, cylindrical, rostal cylindrical. Specific for Transylvanian traders are the increase of engraved flower and geometric motives, the personal relevation of only some elements through relief founding of ornaments, plaquettes, handles, hings and their combinations. The ornaments of the handles are characterized through details, equality of composition and predilection for flower motives. On the piece, the stamps place was different from one town to another. The workshops from Brassó have put their canmarks inside the tankard and the those from Segesvár and Nagyszeben have put them on the handle shoulder.
