  Abstract:  The year 2011, marks the commemoration of eighty years since the composer Ion Vidu passed away. Having been a prominent personality of culture in Banat at the end of the nineteenth century and beginning of the twentieth, Ion Vidu had a major contribution in the musical field as well as in supporting the national cause of romanians in Banat, wich were at that time under austro – hungarian occupation. This article is the first out of a series of studies wich are dedicatied to this occasion and it sets out to display Ion Vidu’s life in terms of relevant biographical elements.
