  Abstract:  Recent, editura Humanitas a publicat versiunea bilingvă a tratatului De libero arbitrio al Sfântului Augustin, în traducerea lui Gh. I. Şerban. Apariţia este un bun prilej de jubilaţie inte-lectuală a cititorilor lui Augustin, de meditaţie asupra valorii acestei ediţii, de reflexie asupra receptivităţii în raport cu augustinismul în cultura română, dar este şi locul potrivit al unor remarci despre nivelul de competenţă al celor care abordează literatura filosofică latină în traducerile româneşti şi a circumstanţelor în care aceste traduceri apar.
