Abstract:  Saint Basil the Great’s Homily for the Young, a Model of Education and Culture. For the studies St. Basil the Great had, but especially for the education and culture he managed to gain, he was a forerunner for the 4th century Christianity, but even more for the following ones. He considered that a good education for the children, with the fear of the Lord, would keep the parents away from a troubled old age. As a consequence of education built with scrupulosity, the parents will enjoy the due love, honour and respect from the children’s part, children they raised and educated. The Homily for the Young is an example of education and culture for the young people in his time, but even more for the young people and teachers in our time. If we have an overall perspective, this image of the school that managed to devise and achieve it in his time, we could say with all the responsibility and confidence that the Cappadocian archbishop is the forerunner of modern education. We can also state firmly that St. Basil the Great represents a model of education and culture for each of us, but especially for the young people today.
