Abstract:  Privileges of Mary in the Paraclisis. Within the Eastern Churches there were written numerous votive offices or pious texts to honour God, the Virgin Mary or the saints. Among them, the office called the Paraclisis is one of the most important. It is a beseech office meant to obtain from Mary, the Holy Mother of God, help in the torments of life and spiritual needs. The Paraclisis is structured as the Lauds, being centred the so-called the Paraclesis Canon, of the Supplicatory Prayer. Of all Odes and Troparions that are to be chanted during the Paraclisis, the Canon is an ongoing supplication for help; it is connected to the awareness of Mary’s identity for the Christian believers and what she is able to intercede for them.

Key words: Paraclesis, prayer, Mary, liturgy, Greek-Catholic Church
