  Abstract:  Cartea profesorului Andrei Marga vine în sprijinul filosofiei şi teologiei contemporane, propunându-ne analiza operei lui Joseph Ratzinger, un „teolog [...] dintre cei mai prolifici şi mai pătrunzători gânditori din modernitatea târzie”. Joseph Ratzinger, alături de Henry de Lubac, Hans Urs von Balthasar, Karl Rahner, Yves Congar, Hans Küng, Eduard Schillebeecks, Wolfahrt Pannenberg, Jürgen Moltmann, Ernst Käsemann şi Walter Kasper, reprezintă teologia catolică post-concilară, care, după perioada teologiei „manualistice”, sterilă în încercarea ei de a perpetua într-o schemă neo-scolastică adevărurile de credinţă, a diversificat din punct de vedere metodologic şi a făcut posibilă abordarea teologiei catolice din perspective atât de diverse, de la viziunea biblică sau patristică, până la perspectiva transcendentală sau existenţialistă.
