  Abstract:  Histoire et religion en De civitate Dei de Saint Augustin. De civitate Dei est lu generalement comme un chapitre important dans le developpement d’une theologie chretienne de l’histoire. Mais le but augustinien du livre est ailleurs: l’auteur veut montrer quelle est la vraie religion et, par consequence, eliminer les fausses reponses a cette question. La solution du probleme est inextricablement melee avec d’autres petites etudes de cas, concernant le rapport de la religion avec la philosophie, la politique, les effets de celle-ci dans l’histoire. L’etude s’acheve avec une analyse des deux cites, marquees par la presence des religions et du religieux.
