ABSTRACT: The unmistakably occidental or the European-occidental identity forming basic force – besides Greek philosophy, Roman law, Jewish monotheism and the high ethos of Jesus of Nazareth – is the very great, inspired occidental music. We come into contact with the spiritual dimension of reality when we devote ourselves to some works of musical art. Music is the relationship between sound and silence. It is precisely in this interaction that music takes on a metaphysical dimension. It can be said that, for example, Johann Sebastian Bach composed music with therapeutic effects.

Key words: occidental music, truth, poliphony, Mozart, Bach, Daniel Barenboim, sound, silence, Sir Yehudi Menuhin, spiritus creator.
