  Article:   HEALTH DISPARITIES BETWEEN CITY AND COUNTRYSIDE – FACTS AND ALTERNATIVES.

  Abstract:  Health disparities between city and countryside – facts and alternatives. After 1989 in Romania the numerous opinions inquests and specialties studies remarked a permanent decrease of population health status and of medical services quality. In front of the imperative necessity to improve and make the changes in the social policy area, in the frame of period characterized by major changes in economical, political, social, cultural field, Romania has been confronted with the necessity to reform and to revise the medical assistance system. The paper tries to present health disparities between rural and urban area at national level in context of social security system’s transformation, starting with 1990. The official health system reform started in 1998, but in 1995 some Romanian districts were selected for “experimental reform”, especially for the rural areas and primary assistance. One of these kinds of counties will be analysed in terms of rural-urban disparities in health status and health resources.
