Abstract:  This paper aims to support the assumption that Romanian news media tend to frame politics similarly to Western media outlets. I will argue that in reflecting electoral politics, Romanian news media uses the strategis and morality frames, along with other, context-determined frames, such as the left - right axis and the communist - non-communist distinction. I will also argue that the use of these frames and the way they are used induces negativity in the overall tone of a specific electoral campaign. My argument is built around the Romanian presidential campaign, October- November 2000. The electoral discourse of two Romanian printed media outlets - Curentul and Adevărul - is studied with emphasis placed upon three dimensions: framing the electoral context, framing the electoral process, and framing political candidates.
